Sister 2 Sistah co-founders Nakia Cooper and Rebecca Briscoe were featured on KPRC 2 Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall where we discussed our mission to bring thousands of African American children to see the Houston Astros game this season.
With the stats of less than 7% of AA players born the US in the Major League Baseball (MLB) and only 2 AA managers, it’s good to know we have the support of World Series Manager Dusty Baker.
As ladies, mothers and trusted voices, we had to do something because stats continued to linger without actionable outcomes in Houston.
Exposure is pivotal because “When they see it, they can achieve it.”
When our organization was faced with challenges of naysayers, doubters, and unbelievers we pushed on. When people gave us the blank stare because we want to bring baseball “black to America,” we remained undeterred. When local businesses, elected officials, and industry titans didn’t give us a second look, we pushed on and have been bringing hundreds of families to games since June 14 (and will continue our efforts for the remainder of the season).
Each trip, we take up to kids and families from various schools and little league teams to witness something spectacular without the worry of paying for tickets, transportation, food, or parking. For all our supporters, cheerleaders, and allies we are forever grateful, we couldn’t do it without you.
